A Day in the Life of a
Manager Trainee
Day 1
7:00 a.m.
You start your day at your surface lot location where the cashier is getting ready for the morning rush. You give the cashier the Bank for the day and check equipment and tickets while you are there. Next you head to the hotel operation to check on your valets and attendants. Since it is graduation week for the surrounding colleges and universities, the team is hustling. You jump in to help with the rush.
1:35 p.m.
As you return to your location from lunch, Mr. Jones is waiting to speak to you about monthly parking permits. After you provide him with all of the information he is looking for, you head back to the surface lot to check on the operation. You notice the “ticket spitter” is jammed, so you spend some time resolving the problem so your evening customers have no trouble getting in and out of the location.
5:32 p.m.
Just back from handing out promotional flyers to local businesses, you take a look at budget reports to see how your locations are doing compared to last year. You notice that your numbers are even better than last year. Before going home for the night you share the news and a word of praise with your staff.
Day 2
7:51 a.m.
You finish printing a flyer to distribute to your employees so they are aware of the upcoming team meeting to review the week. You then review schedules and upcoming events in preparation for a meeting with your district manager. You answer all of her questions and continue on with the next part of your day.
11:43 a.m.
When you return from lunch the Catering Manager is waiting for you to tell you about a wedding that is scheduled for the upcoming weekend. You will need to change the schedule to accommodate the large crowd, along with the normal weekend rush. You then take a look at the number of cars in the garage and how many will be exiting for the evening so your staff can assist in making it an easy exit.
5:29 p.m.
You start to wrap up your day at your locations so you can head over to Joe's location to learn about the most advanced parking technology, Pay on Foot. Joe will show you how the reporting application works before you both head to a local eatery for a bite to eat.
Day 3
7:29 a.m.
You arrive at your facility to find your attendants diligently directing traffic and assisting customers. It seems they have the morning rush under control so you can start your projects for the day. You start by conducting a spot audit on your cashier. You take some time to count the number of cars in the location and number of tickets your cashier has collected so far. After some calculations, you are able to determine that your cashier is on target and all numbers balance. At this point you decide to drive to the home office to speak to your accountant regarding accounting procedures.
12:31 p.m.
You hear on the radio that a snowstorm is expected for tomorrow. You take some time to review the forecast and prepare your staff; looks like it will be an early start in the morning. You then check your supplies to make sure you have the necessary equipment. You are low on salt so it's a trip to the maintenance department to stock up!
5:57 p.m.
Just before you are ready to call it a day, you check your Pay on Foot equipment to make sure you have enough change to get you through the evening hours. As you are taking care of the machine your evening manager arrives to discuss the events of the day and what he can expect during the evening hours.
